Database Heaven

I just got back from the LiberaList Orientation. This is the new database system that the Liberals have contracted and adapted from the VAN (Voter Activation Network) that has been used so successfully by the Democratic National Party in the States.

Oh. My. God. This is, no shit, the coolest thing EVAH!!!

As the GOTV co-chair-by-default for Halton during the last election, I got a good first hand look at the capabilities and limitations of the party's old system, ManageElect. Those limitations were even more keenly felt by our campaign manager, who had also had first hand experience with the much more detailed Conservative system.

She is going to be over the frickin' MOON with this.

All this might not mean much to those who have never sat in a campaign office doing data entry or tried to generate a walk list, but the difference between this new system and the old one is like the difference between an integrated inventory control system and a cash register. I don't want to give out too many secrets here, but suffice it to say that once this system is loaded up with voter data, it will completely blow away any advantage the Conservatives have had regarding voter identification and targeting.

This will change everything.
